"One student, however, showed up in flip flops, cutoff jeans, and a tank top. He didn’t look like and engineer, and he didn’t look like someone who could work on a truck. He looked like he wanted to sit on the beach, and I am afraid it ended his chances of getting a job with us."

It's also sad that people put so much stock into appearance and grooming when both have nothing to do with a person's capable mind. It is true though that people are required to dress the part. Hence, there are uniforms.

I am a proud owner of a California Scooter Company bike and I can say with absolute certainty that this is the most fun I've ever had on a bike! The bike is GREAT for all riders but especially great for women who might not feel they can handle a bigger bike. In addition, for all of use who are advancing in age, the prospect of pushing around a huge bike anymore is no longer attractive or practical and THIS is the solution to that problem. I absolutely LOVE my California Scooter Company bike and look forward to picking out another one. The paint jobs are absolutely spectacular and the customer service provided by EVERYONE at CSC is unbelievable, the best I've ever experienced. This is one American company that knows what it's all about: a great product with great customer service! What could be better?!!! By the way, I also own a Mercedes S500 and I'll take my CSC bike any day of the week over that gas hog!

J, your point is well-made. Hand-wringing about finding the perfect domain name is probably best avoided; first, get the business model focused and get the content right and the rest will follow.

Another angle to consider on the domain name question, though - if none of the available options work for one reason or another, there are ways to engage anonymously and negotiate the purchase/transfer of a domain name from its current owner. I recently wrote an article on this topic discussing the various options open to trademark holders in pursuit of the "perfect" domain name - the upshot is that sometimes it's cheaper (or strategically advantageous) to quietly and quickly buy the domain name from its current owner than to try to force a less-than-ideal domain name into service.

Great post, and it is so true about your uniform. I work at a university in research, so we have student workers. We like to get mechanical or electrical engineering students so they can help us in our lab and also do more mundane things like take care of our trucks. Most of them dress like engineers when they come for an interview - khakis and a polo, or occasionally a suit, or perhaps workboots and blue jeans. One student, however, showed up in flip flops, cutoff jeans, and a tank top. He didn't look like and engineer, and he didn't look like someone who could work on a truck. He looked like he wanted to sit on the beach, and I am afraid it ended his chances of getting a job with us.
